Valheim Hearth and Home Expansion: Release date, features and everything we know

Valheim’s first major content update will expand your options by building the definitive residence of Viking purgatory, adding new features and objects to develop your foundations in the open world survival game. It’s called Hearth and Home and is specifically aimed at basic improvements, as well as adjustments in food that should make survival in the Valheim jungle a little more practical.

Since Valheim has amassed around six million players, developer Iron Gate Studio said he is mainly focused on bug fixes, and the massive influx of players was more than the developer anticipated. But now, there are four major updates planned for the game, with Hearth and Home being the first. Here’s everything we know about it so far.

Valheim home and home release date

In February, Iron Gate released one that is coming into the game as it remains in Early Access. This roadmap includes several updates for 2021, the first being Hearth and Home. The script does not include fixed dates, but as Hearth was first on the list, we can probably expect that to happen sooner or later.

The question is how much bug fixing work Iron Gate feels you need to do. Like the rest of the gaming industry, the team is also working from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which may contribute to the time it takes for the new update to be released. That said, Iron Gate had ambitious plans for Valheim in early access, with several updates scheduled for this year, so it looks like we won’t have to wait long for Hearth and Home to get into the game.

What home and home involve

Valheim’s first update is focused on building bases. While players have already created some huge and impressive Viking fortresses, Iron Gate is looking to expand all of these capabilities in a number of ways. We don’t have exact details on what the update will entail, but the developer said the main push is to add more craft features to homes. This means that you can probably expect more building materials, more types of walls, doors, floors, roofs and more decorations for the interior of your buildings. Iron Gate also said that the intention is to add “more things to do in and around your home”, which will be a good addition, as now you can only sit, sleep or work at your base.

Iron Gate also said Hearth and Home will focus on food. Wait for the food to rebalance and more food to be added, which should give you more solid combinations to keep you alive in the field and give you specific buffs, such as resistance regeneration. There could also be new cooking stations to match the new materials. Again, Iron Gate didn’t give us a lot of details, but we know that the update will give you more for your home, so expecting to cook more for more specific fans seems reasonable.

What’s after Hearth and Home?

Valheim’s roadmap is very limited in detail, but we can get a sense of what else is scheduled for 2021 based on the names of each expansion. Here they are, in order:

  • Update 1: home and home
  • Update 2: Cult of the Wolf
  • Update 3: Ships and the sea
  • Update 4: New Biome – Mistlands

Updates 1, 3 and 4 are very clear, at least thematic, so we can expect more things to do in the oceans (and probably more scary monsters to contend with) and a new biome to explore, with all features, breeding upgrades and enemies that this entails. Update 2 is the one that leaves more speculation – Wolf Cult may refer to things like wolf armor, or it may lean towards the taming system that already allows you to turn wolves into your pets and combat companions.

In addition to these four major updates, the roadmap includes some other improvements that could come to the game “if Odin so wishes.” These are:

  • Multiplayer interactions
  • Combat improvements
  • Moon phases
  • Tarpits
  • Expansion of supplier stock
  • Thieves Svartalfr
  • More exclusive locations
  • Sandbox Mode
  • Munin (who is Odin’s other raven)

With more than six million players buying Valheim, it can be assumed that most of these updates are likely to be on the table.

We will continue to update this article as more information about Hearth and Home becomes available. With so many Vikings flooding Valheim, however, it looks like there won’t be much time to wait for the first access expansion.
