Valheim dev shares a small sample of the first major update when sales exceed the 6 million mark • Eurogamer.net

The Viking-themed cooperative survival phenomenon, Valheim, has now surpassed the barrier of six million copies sold on Steam, and developer Iron Gate Studios is celebrating with a small taste of the game’s first major update.

Valheim, of course, was a resounding success for the five-person studio; the game managed to move an impressive 1 million copies in the first week, and now, six weeks later, there is still no sign that those numbers are going down anytime soon.

“We are very honored to have had the opportunity to participate in various interviews, podcasts and game reports on Swedish television!” Said Iron Gate of his success in a new post. “It’s been a busy period, but don’t worry! Of course, we’re still working on the game.”

The developer says he is currently focusing on dealing with high-priority bugs and other key areas, including network issues and balance adjustments for Valheim’s notorious Deathsquito, and that a new patch is just waiting for a Steam update.

A little further on, however, as revealed in the initial Iron Gate development roadmap, is Valheim’s first major update, known as Hearth and Home. Details on the additions it will bring remain scarce, but the studio has now offers an initial preview, courtesy of its lead artist. It’s not much to go on, I admit, but let the speculation surrounding the woodpecker bird run free:

“We have a lot of exciting things planned for this update,” writes Iron Gate. “Obviously, we heard your comments and suggestions and we can’t wait until we can show you more.”
