Valerie Bertinelli was thrilled to report her life since Eddie Van Halen’s death in an interview with Today exposure.
“It has been difficult. Very bittersweet, ”admitted the rocker’s ex-wife when asked how she has handled in recent months.
Bertinelli has been a regular guest on the popular morning show for several years, a fact she confessed may have contributed to her emotions. “I don’t know why I’m crying,” explained the actress to presenters Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly. “You know when you hear voices and see people you feel the connection with – and you always make me cry.”
“It’s difficult,” continued the actress, detailing the moments when she forgets that Eddie is gone. “I texted him a few dozen times. I was like, ‘Oh, I can’t text him right now.’ “
The couple was married for 26 years before divorcing in 2007. Together, they raised their son, Wolfgang, who has since had a successful music career on his own.
During a posterior segment in Today, Bertinelli described the last holidays with his son as “quite magical”, especially due to the circumstances. “I was unable to spend his birthday with him because we closed in March. It was the first birthday in 29 years that I didn’t see him, so we really made an effort to stay healthy, safe and masked, and we were able to spend the holidays together. It is a very necessary moment for us. “
In November, Wolfgang gave his own interview to Today, discussing his father’s legacy, as well as “Distance”, the solo track he wrote in honor of his father.
“Some days it is very difficult to get out of bed,” young Van Halen admitted about life without Eddie. “It doesn’t look like the pain is really going to go away. You just figured out how to charge it a little bit better. ”Still, Wolfgang insisted that“ it will continue, because I know that’s what [his father] would have wished. “
