Valerie Bertinelli is still struggling with the loss of Eddie Van Halen. The 60-year-old actress appeared on Today show on Monday, where she was thrilled when asked about how she is after her ex-husband died.
“I don’t know why I’m crying,” began Bertinelli, who was on the program to share cooking recipes. “It has been difficult. Very bittersweet. “
The guitar legend died in October after a long battle with cancer. He was 65 years old. They had a son, Wolfie, 29, and have remained close over the years.
Bertinelli said that she and Wolfie are “fine”.
“We spent the holidays together, I’ll see you later today”, the One day at a time noted alum. “We have spent a lot of time together.”
“It is difficult,” she added. “I went to the text [Eddie] a few dozen times. It’s like, ‘Oh, no, I can’t text him right now.’ “
Van Halen and Bertinelli were one of the most popular celebrity couples of the 1980s, as people were fascinated by the “good girl” on TV in love with the “bad boy” rockstar. They were married 20 years before they separated in 2001.
The former spouses have remained close over the years – even when they both remarried. Van Halen attended Bertinelli’s wedding to her current husband, Tom Vitale. The actress’s love for her ex was evident in the sweet tribute posted after her death.
“40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you. You gave me the only true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang. Throughout all of your challenging lung cancer treatments, you kept your beautiful spirit and that mischievous smile. I am so grateful that Wolfie and I were able to embrace him in his last moments, ”she captioned an old family image. “I will see you in our next life, my love.”
