UW-Madison says 1,800 campus community members qualify for next round of vaccines

MADISON, Wisconsin – With people over 65 becoming eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine starting next week, UW-Madison says it has been notified to about 1,800 members of its campus community to make appointments.

The university says that people who qualify can also get the vaccine and make an appointment through their own health care provider if they don’t want to get the vaccine through the university.

University Health Services was approved as a vaccinator on December 30 and started vaccinating people who qualified in Phase 1a of the Wisconsin vaccination plan on January 5. This includes people who have direct contact with patients with COVID-19 or the virus, such as researchers studying the virus or employees testing samples of COVID-19.

The university says it has also recently started vaccinating members of the UW Police Department as Phase 1b of the vaccination process.

Like most health care providers and vaccinators, UW-Madison is reminding people that their vaccination efforts depend on how available the vaccine is, as well as state and federal guidelines.

The university says it will contact anyone else who is eligible to schedule a vaccine once final guidance is issued on who else will be included in Phase 1b and other phases of the vaccination process.
