Utah reports over 500 new COVID-19 cases and 5 more deaths

Almost 400,000 Utahns have been fully vaccinated.

As Utah prepares to open the COVID-19 vaccination for everyone aged 16 and over next week, the state reported 560 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday.

The Utah Department of Health also reported five more deaths, bringing the total in Utah since the pandemic began to 2,041. A previously reported death was removed from the total after further investigation revealed it was not the result of the coronavirus.

Vaccine doses administered the previous day / total doses administered • 25,312 / 1,080,039.

Fully vaccinated Utahns • 394,004.

Cases reported the previous day • 560.

Deaths reported the day before • Five.

Salt Lake County reported two deaths, both women aged 65 to 84. There were also two deaths in Utah County, both women over the age of 85. And a man from Wasatch County, aged 45 to 64, died.

Hospitalizations reported the previous day • 189. That means nine as of Wednesday. Of those currently hospitalized, 63 are in intensive care units – unchanged since Wednesday.

Tests reported the day before • 7,526 people were tested for the first time. A total of 16,975 people were tested.

Percentage of positive tests • In the original state method, the rate is 7.4%. This is less than the 8.4% 7-day average.

His new method counts all test results, including repeated tests from the same individual. Thursday’s rate is now at 3.3%, below the 7-day average of 4.2%.

Totals to date • 380,340 boxes; 2,041 deaths; 15,223 hospitalizations; 2,314,764 people tested.
