Utah governor says GOP needs to focus on more than just ‘owning the libs’

Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) is asking members of his own party to focus on more than cultural wars with Democrats.

“Being conservative is more than just having libs,” Cox said during an interview on the “Matt Lewis and the News” podcast, released on Wednesday.

He added: “I still believe in a Republican Party and a conservatism that raises everyone and really has to do with opportunities for everyone, and we don’t do that by rejecting people or ruining people’s lives or, again, just these false controversies. , those false choices that we continue to introduce people to. “

Cox criticized Republican lawmakers for not prioritizing the political issues that affect ordinary Americans and instead focusing on being victorious over the other side.

“I am very concerned that … we have lost our way, our fundamental values as a party,” said Cox. “It seems that we have just defined ourselves in opposition to everything the left is doing.”

The United States’ deficit is one of the issues that Republicans have begun to ignore, Cox said.

“No one has raised the deficit in the past four years,” he said, arguing that politics needs to be put at the forefront of political talks.

“These are the conversations we should be having and unfortunately we are not. We are spending more time with Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head,” he said.
