Kwame Sarpong Asiedu, a pharmacist and fellow at the Center for Democratic Development, CDD – Ghana, expressed concern about the use of hydrogen peroxide in the prevention and / or treatment of the Coronavirus.

He made contributions to Joy FM’s Newsfile program warning against complications that could arise if the public did not dilute the substance for use.

“I am even concerned about people’s ability to dilute hydrogen peroxide serially because you have 6% and 9% on the market.

“If you don’t know how to dilute it properly to reach 1%, it is a corrosive agent and can end up hurting your mouth, nose and everything. So, you have to be very careful, ”he added.

There has been a recent increase in sales of hydrogen peroxide, according to the Food and Drugs Board, FDB.

A recent joint monitoring exercise by officials from the Pharmacy Council (PC) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) revealed the shortage of hydrogen peroxide in pharmaceutical facilities due to the purchase of panic.

A statement by the two agencies added that the development led to the sale of counterfeit and substandard hydrogen peroxide on the market.

Pharmacies and over-the-counter drug stores have therefore been warned to always buy their stocks from licensed wholesalers and manufacturers.

“The general public is also being reminded to buy only hydrogen peroxide and other drugs approved by the Food and Drugs Authority and to pay attention to the mandatory FDA registration numbers for such products, if they are manufactured in Ghana,” says a statement.
