USA South prevents fans from watching the games in person – The Stanly News & Press

Sports Editor’s Note: The following is a press release from the Southern US Conference on games that include conference members, including Pfeiffer University.

The presidents of the South American Athletic Conference unanimously agreed to a Conference policy that stipulates that no spectator will be allowed to attend any domestic sporting events in the South USA. This includes basketball, which is scheduled to start playing at the Conference during the weekend of January 16. The lack of spectators will allow institutional teams to focus exclusively on maintaining the health and safety of the event’s participants.

“Conducting intercollegiate competitions during the pandemic is a challenge in itself,” said Dr. Tom Hart, Southern Commissioner, USA. “Focusing efforts to provide safe playing conditions is the priority at this point. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to the viewer policy as they occur.
