According to CNN’s latest report, the technology was first revealed in September 2020 by a California start-up, Exosonic. The company said it is working with the United States Air Force to develop a supersonic aircraft, which could also function as an Air Force One aircraft.

The US Presidential and Executive Air Transport (PE) Board has awarded a contract to Exosonic. The collaboration of the two agencies was formed after the Exosonic impressed the United States Armed Forces with its low-boom Mach 1.8 supersonic double-jet concept.

To give you an idea, here are the main details you should expect.

Exosonic’s next aircraft is expected to be used by US Executive Brach’s distinguished visitors or DVs. In addition to being used as Air Force One, the giant manufacturer said it could also be used as Air Force Two, which is the plane used to transport the United States’ vice president.

“With this concept, we are planning to implement new technologies that are not available today or that you do not (yet) see in commercial or business aircraft,” said Stephanie Chahan, aircraft interior designer at Exosonic.

“So whether you’re flying with the vice president or the first lady, or the first gentleman, we would have a lot of flexibility here,” she added.

Exosonic’s next supersonic jet is expected to have a range of 5,000 nautical miles.

In addition, he could also use sound softening techniques, which could allow him to achieve almost twice the speed of sound without making a lot of noise.

On the other hand, the next advanced aircraft could boast a speed of Mach 1.8, which is about 1,381 miles per hour. This means that it can be twice as fast as the current cruising speed of a long-haul commercial aircraft.

Exosonic also added that its next U.S. presidential Supersonic jet could arrive in 2030.

Is it the fastest commercial jet?

Exosonic’s new aircraft may look promising, but it may not be the fastest commercial jet, as it is rumored that another aircraft reaches five times the speed of sound. Byte previously reported that the United States Air Force also awarded Hermeus, an aerospace startup, a contract to develop a commercial jet that could reach ultra-fast speeds of up to Mach 5.
