US stops production of AstraZeneca vaccine at Baltimore plant: Report

The US government on Saturday stopped a Baltimore factory that ruined 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine by producing the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca Plc, a New York Times reported.
J&J said in a statement that it was “taking full responsibility for the manufacture of the drug substance for its Covid-19 vaccine at the Emergent BioSolutions Inc. facility in Bayview”.
He did not specify whether to take over the factory. The company did not respond to requests for clarification from Reuters.
The New York Times reported that AstraZeneca said in a statement that it will work with President Joe Biden’s administration to find an alternative location. The drugmaker did not respond to a request for comment.
The decision by the United States Department of Health and Human Services will make the Emergent BioSolutions facility exclusively dedicated to making the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine and aims to avoid future confusion, according to the newspaper report, which cites two senior officials federal health
The U.S. government’s chief infectious doctor told Reuters that the country may not need the AstraZeneca vaccine, even if it does get approval.
