US Soccer elects new VP, cancels hymn policy at AGM – The Athletic

US Soccer elected Bill Taylor as its vice president at its Annual General Meeting on Saturday.

Taylor, the president of the Idaho Youth Soccer Association, defeated former US men’s star Cobi Jones, USSF board member Tim Turney and Metropolitan DC-Virginia Soccer Association president Jim Sadowski in the election, which required two voting rounds after which no candidate managed to secure a majority of the votes in the first round. Taylor won in the second round with 55.94% of the vote, ahead of Jones, who obtained 40.47%.

Jones had more than 45 percent of the first round of voting, but saw his support drop in the second round after Sadowski withdrew for the second round.

“We elected a wonderful vice president at Bill Taylor, who I believe will add a lot to the board,” said American football president Cindy Parlow Cone. “He has extensive experience in the game, especially in the grassroots categories.
