US Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina says he has COVID-19

COLOMBIA, SC (AP) – US Representative Joe Wilson is the latest member of the South Carolina Congressional delegation to test positive for coronavirus, announcing the test result on Wednesday, just hours after speaking in plenary of the US House.

In a statement released by his office, the Republican said his test was positive earlier in the day, adding: “I feel good and I have no symptoms.”

Wilson, 73, said he would quarantine “during the Christmas holiday”.

“It is very important that we all do our part to help prevent the spread of this virus,” he said.

Wilson was in the United States House on Wednesday when he gave a speech praising President Donald Trump “for his efforts to get a vaccine to the United States faster than any other vaccine in history”.

Wilson was covering his face during his comments. His office did not immediately respond to a message about other elements of the parliamentarian’s recent agenda.

Elected to his tenth term in November, Wilson is the last of seven members of the US House delegation in South Carolina to hire COVID-19. US Tom Rice, a Republican representing Myrtle Beach, tested positive this year, along with several members of his immediate family.

Democratic Representative Joe Cunningham of Charleston also tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this year, as was Nancy Mace, the Republican who ousted Cunningham in the November elections.
