[UPDATED 1/8] Twitch removes the PogChamp emote and replaces it with a different emote each day

UPDATE 1/8: Following a suggestion made by Sean “Day[9]”Plott, Twitch will replace the PogChamp emote with a new one every day.

Original Story:

On the night of Wednesday, January 6, Twitch updated its website, removing the popular emote, PogChamp, following a series of messages from the face of the emote, Ryan “gootecks” Gutierrez. gootecks originally appeared in 2010 in part of a YouTube series featuring the personality of the fighting game community, Mike Ross, Counter Cross TV, and the name comes from a later video featuring the same two presenters.

Despite his popularity on the site, Twitch released the following statement along with the removal of the emote.

In his statement, Twitch is referring to a series of tweets made by gootecks around the events that took place in the United States Capitol building on January 6. A large group of protesters stormed the campus in protest, storming the Capitol and storming the building. Congress was scheduled to confirm the Electoral College’s votes for President Biden today. A woman was shot in the neck and died, which was publicly referred to.

gootecks first tweeted that he would later share a graphic video of his death, while inciting violence in return and observing the alleged censorship on Twitter. He then tweeted a recording of the woman being shot, again watching the censorship. He said that the rowdy woman “gave her life for our country” and, in both tweets, used the hashtag #MAGAMartyr.

Along with the invasion of the Capitol building, several explosives were found on campus as well.

Popular political streamer HasanAbi broadcast throughout the day, covering the events that took place live. He was also alive after the removal of PogChamp, showing frustration, since the emote had “transcended himself”, but acknowledged that he had done the “alt-right”.

Twitch acknowledged the importance of the advertising campaign emote and said he would work with the community to make a replacement.

gootecks did not respond publicly to the removal of the emote by Twitch.
