Update of NCDHHS arriving in the supply and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine :: WRAL.com

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services will provide an update on the supply of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday.

A specific time for the announcement was not disclosed.

The update will come when eligible groups that have not received their first dose express frustration and clinics struggle to meet demands.

On Monday, the Orange County Health Department said its clinic ran out of first doses and it is unclear when they will get more from the state. Orange County has sent a notice saying that, until the supply is significantly increased, it may take weeks or even months before everyone in Phase 1 and 2 is vaccinated.

In Cumberland County and Lee County, clinics are open primarily to those receiving their second dose of the vaccine.

Other counties, including Wake, received fewer vaccines than they expected this week and are slowing the vaccination process by appointment only.

In Durham, county leaders are preparing to add a new mass vaccination site to the distribution process, which would have the capacity to vaccinate some 45,000 people a week.

Mass vaccination sites have already been set up in other parts of the state, including Charlotte and Greenville.
