Up to 7 may be injured in natural gas explosion, fire near Klein

KLEIN, Texas – Up to seven people could be injured on Friday in a major explosion of natural gas and fire near Klein that led to the evacuation of some residents of the area.

The fire was reported on the 18700 block of Gleannloch Lakes Boulevard.

Harris County Fire Department officials said a Comcast team was working in the area and stole a natural gas line. The team called a CenterPoint team to inspect the line, which was when two lines exploded, officials said.

A Comcast representative said a contractor cut a small line in an area where the line was marked incorrectly. The representative said that the CenterPoint teams reached a larger line while repairing the small line.

The flames are fired from the scene of a major natural gas fire near Klein, Texas, on March 5, 2021.

Klein’s firefighters said up to seven may have been injured, while HCFMO officials said that number was close to five. A tweet from the Harris County sheriff’s office said about 10 CenterPoint employees were taken to a hospital for treatment. This tweet was later deleted.
