UofSC ranks first in nursing – UofSC News & Events

# 1 General Nursing College for Online Master’s Programs

The University of South Carolina College of Nursing ranks 1st among all universities in the United States for its online nursing degree program, according to the US News and World Report’s annual online ranking.

The rankings also put the university in first place for its online nursing degree program for veterans.

Online graduate programs are common in nursing because many students are already practicing in the field. UofSC’s success in this area demonstrates not only its academic excellence, but also its commitment to providing flexible degree programs.

Both online programs have increased in rank compared to second place last year (first among public universities), demonstrating the university’s success in providing exceptional leadership in health science education.

“We will continue to expand and improve our offerings of high quality, affordable online degree programs to increase educational opportunities for more Southern Carolinians.”

– President Caslen

The rankings are a great achievement, mainly due to the category’s competitiveness.

“Most graduate nursing programs in the United States are online, making this competition (and success) even more important,” says Dean Jeannette Andrews. “We have a strong track record of excellence, and the metrics used for this ranking show the achievements of our faculty and students – it includes our credentials and teacher training, IT and distributed learning support and evidence-based teaching methods.”

The Faculty of Nursing of UofSC ranked among the top 10 in the ranking in the last seven years, occupying the last position in 1st place in 2016. The faculty is also among the 1% of the country in approval rates at NCLEX.

“As our national reputation continues to flourish – we attract a variety of teachers, staff and stellar students who choose to work and / or learn here,” says Andrews. “It is well known among Gamecock Nursing Nation that the standards are high and we challenge each other to be our best individual and collective in everything we do.”

Andrews attributes the College of Nursing’s stellar reputation as attractive to veterans who are interested in pursuing their undergraduate nursing degree online.

“Our veterans want to attend a top-notch school, with specialized teachers who are engaged and committed to their success, and many choose us to pursue their graduate degrees in nursing,” says Andrews.

In addition, US News has classified areas of expertise. Among them, the Nursing School ranked 14th for Best Online Nursing Professional – Family and Best Online Nursing Professional – Nursing Administration / Leadership.

Other UofSC classifications include:

The Faculty of Engineering at UofSC was rated as one of the best online engineering degree programs in the country, while UofSC Aiken was also rated as one of the best online business degree programs in the country.

The College of Education remained in 23rd place as the Best Online Education Program, at the same time that it obtained an online education specialty rating for Best Online Graduate Education Programs – Curriculum and Instruction.

“These ratings demonstrate the excellent work of our faculty across the university system,” said UofSC President Bob Caslen. “We will continue to expand and improve our offerings of high quality, affordable online degree programs to increase educational opportunities for more Southern Carolinians.”
