UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL – Highlighted ex-Pelion High Justin Stepp will train Gamecock wide receivers

Shane Beamers’ new technical football team at the University of South Carolina looks set to add another Chronicle Country product.
Justin Stepp, who along with his twin brother and Georgia state technical assistant Josh, took Pelion High School to its first regional title, reportedly accepted a position as the new trainer for Gamecocks Wide Receivers.
Stepp, 37, was the only remnant of Coach Sam Pittman’s first team with Razorbacks after coming to Arkansas with Coach Chad Morris in 2018. Born in Columbia and trained at Furman University, he received two honors from the All-Southern Conference, he spent 3 seasons in Arkansas.
Stepp was the primary recruiter at receiver Ketron Jackson and assisted with Scott Fountain in athlete Raheim Sanders, two of the top rated candidates from the Arkansas December signatories. He also recruited wideouts Bryce Stephens and Jaedon Wilson and helped launch defensive tackle Marcus Miller.
Stepp spent 10 seasons as a wide receiver trainer at 4 different schools – North Greenville, Appalachian State, Southern Methodist and Arkansas. He is expected to be the 4th of 8 new coaches on Beamer’s team, joining Dutch Fork graduate and former Hammond School coach Erik Kimrey, who will coach the opposing teams.
Beamer retained 4 main coaches from the previous coaching staff – Mike Bobo (offensive coordinator / defenders), Des Kitchings (attackers), Tracy Rocker (defensive line) and Mike Peterson (outside attackers). Former defender Connor Shaw is expected to return in an off-field role.
The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees is expected to approve the new hiring contracts during a Zoom meeting on Monday.
