United States Park Police Union condemns “biased” narratives by politicians and media about responding to the Capitol riot

The U.S. Police union on Friday condemned “incorrect” narratives and “biased reporting”, criticizing officers’ actions in the midst of the US Capitol riot on Wednesday.

Union officials claimed that politicians from both parties used the police as political pawns.

“It is disheartening, to say the least, when our officers return home to see inaccurate and biased news from members of Congress, from both political parties, who continue to use police as pawns in the political process,” said Kenneth Spencer, president of the Fraternal Order of the US Police, in a statement, according to the Washington Examiner.

Many Democrats, including President-elect Joe Biden, have said that some of the officers who protected the Capitol during the rebellion have treated Trump supporters much better than the rowdy Black Lives Matter have been treated by officials in recent months.

“No one can tell me that if it were a group of Black Lives Matter protesters yesterday, they would not have been treated very differently from the crowd that invaded the Capitol,” wrote Biden on Thursday on Twitter. “We all know that this is true – and it is unacceptable.”

MSNBC’s liberal presenter Joy Reid said on Wednesday that “white Americans are never afraid of the police, even when they are committing an insurrection.”

In Wednesday’s confusion, a rioter was shot dead and Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick died of injuries sustained in the riot. Another three died of medical emergencies during or before the riot.
