The U.S. Police union on Friday condemned “incorrect” narratives and “biased reporting”, criticizing officers’ actions in the midst of the US Capitol riot on Wednesday.
Union officials claimed that politicians from both parties used the police as political pawns.
“It is disheartening, to say the least, when our officers return home to see inaccurate and biased news from members of Congress, from both political parties, who continue to use police as pawns in the political process,” said Kenneth Spencer, president of the Fraternal Order of the US Police, in a statement, according to the Washington Examiner.
Many Democrats, including President-elect Joe Biden, have said that some of the officers who protected the Capitol during the rebellion have treated Trump supporters much better than the rowdy Black Lives Matter have been treated by officials in recent months.

“No one can tell me that if it were a group of Black Lives Matter protesters yesterday, they would not have been treated very differently from the crowd that invaded the Capitol,” wrote Biden on Thursday on Twitter. “We all know that this is true – and it is unacceptable.”
MSNBC’s liberal presenter Joy Reid said on Wednesday that “white Americans are never afraid of the police, even when they are committing an insurrection.”

“Even when they are trying to occupy our Capitol to steal votes from people who look like me because, in their minds, they own this country, they own that Capitol,” she said. “They are the owners of the police. The police work for them and people like me have no right to try to elect a president, because we cannot choose the president. They can choose the president. They are the owners of the president. They are owners. of the White House. They own this country. “
Capitol police chief Steven Sund also defended his officers’ response and took the blame for the security breach.

“Since the violation of the Capitol building was inevitable, we prioritized lives over property, bringing people to safety,” he said in a statement. “No member of Congress or his team was injured. Our officers did their job. Our leadership did not.”

Members of both parties questioned why the Capitol was so vulnerable to violations, but many were careful to blame the incorrect planning, not the responding officers themselves.

“It will be very difficult for me not to hug every Capitol Police officer I pass through security or in the halls,” wrote Bailee Beshires, Senator Lamar Alexander’s press assistant, R-Tenn., On Thursday. “These men and women are heroes who deserve more than what happened to them yesterday.”
Sean Hannity said on Thursday that the breach exposed a “massive vulnerability” in Capitol security.
“We need to determine what went wrong at the United States Capitol, that is our priority,” said the host of “Hannity”. “Americans rightly demand answers. What we all witnessed yesterday inside the Capitol building, which could never, ever, ever happen again in this country. That building belongs to us, the people. This is our home and it has been violated , and it was breached in minutes with relative ease … it’s inexplicable. “

FOP leader Spencer, who said that the United States Park Police gave tactical support to the Capitol Police, criticized the “reckless planning” of the Capitol Police administration.
“It became clear that the management of the United States Capitol Police has greatly underestimated the risk of violence in the demonstration,” he said of the arrival of the Park police, according to the Examiner. “Despite his administration’s reckless planning, and at great risk to his personal safety, Capitol Police officers continued to serve with dignity and professionalism in the midst of oppressive chaos and hostility.”

In Wednesday’s confusion, a rioter was shot dead and Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick died of injuries sustained in the riot. Another three died of medical emergencies during or before the riot.
