After chaos ensued on flights to the DC area in the days leading up to Wednesday’s United States Capitol riots, a union of flight attendants is trying to ban pro-Trump protesters from airplanes.
The president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, which represents employees of 17 airlines such as United, Alaska and Spirit, said that pro-Trump protesters should be banned from flying on commercial aircraft leaving Washington after exhibiting “mental behavior” of mob “on airplanes.

“The mafia behavior that occurred on several flights to the DC area yesterday was unacceptable and threatened the safety of every person on board,” said Sara Nelson, the union’s president, in a statement released on Wednesday.
“His violent and seditious actions on Capitol Hill today create more concern about his departure from the DC area. Acts against our democracy, our government and the freedom we demand as Americans must disqualify these individuals from freedom of flight,” she added.

On Wednesday, a pro-Trump crowd stormed the nation’s Capitol in an attempt to interrupt the certification of Electoral College votes, forcing lawmakers to evacuate and postpone confirmation of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. Many of the protesters entered the building after breaking the Capitol windows, resulting in the sending of National Guard troops to DC. One woman died after being shot during the invasion, and there were at least 52 arrests.
After Wednesday’s events, the flight attendants union encouraged law enforcement, airlines and organizations like the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Transport to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members.

“We are taking a hard line on flight safety and we encourage airlines, government agencies and law enforcement to help prevent problems on our flights. It is important to maintain order and calm in our cabins – for immediate safety and confidence in air safety. among the traveling public, “according to a statement posted on the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA website.
