A bill that would effectively ban most abortions in South Carolina is advancing rapidly at the Statehouse.
After failed attempts in the past, this appears to be the year in which the so-called “heartbeat bill” will be made law in the state of Palmetto.
Similar laws have been passed in almost a dozen other conservative states, but none have been enforced because of legal challenges.
The same should happen with the South Carolina ban, if passed, then the policies will not go into effect anytime soon – or ever.
Political reporter Jamie Lovegrove has followed the bill’s progress and explained why the Republican Party’s gains in the General Assembly have allowed the bill to go further than before.
Mary Ziegler, a professor of law at Florida State University and author of the 2020 book, “Abortion and the law in America: Roe V. Wade to date,” explained the legal implications of the project, which should start in the long-term legal battle this way. that is signed.
