Thorium Entertainment has announced that it is bringing its roguelike action adventure and UnderMine adventure to the Nintendo Switch next month.
The game has already been downloaded 600,000 times on Steam and the Xbox Game Pass, and puts you in the role of a “reckless peasant” who will not stop at anything to find his fortune in a dark and dangerous mine.
It is an interesting premise, and it is made even more attractive by the fact that the creators of UnderMine clearly have a small debt to the classic 2D Zelda series, at least in terms of presentation.
As you can see in the trailer, some of the characters wear Link-style clothes, they pose in a familiar pose when collecting important items, explode walls with bombs, and even display a frighteningly similar animation when they fall into a hole. It’s all done with the tongue firmly on the cheek, of course, and the presentation in general looks fantastic. The gameplay of grabbing the loot and roguelike elements make it stand out from the famous Nintendo series, even though it shares some technical and visual similarities.
Derek Johnson, founder of Thorium Entertainment, said the following about the news:
“Since we launched our first early access version, the question that our fans always asked was ‘When will the Switch come?’ Launching a game on a Nintendo platform is a dream come true, and we look forward to new fans joining the horde in February! “
UnderMine currently has a rating of 9/10 on Steam, which certainly bodes well. Our Eurogamer friends went straight to the Steam version and described it as “a distilled version of Zelda on the SNES … if Zelda was confined to a dungeon”. It will be released on Thursday, February 11 on Switch and will cost $ 19.99.
Here’s the PR:
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – January 28, 2021 – UnderMine, the action-adventure roguelike full of secrets from developer Thorium Entertainment, got rich with a Nintendo Switch release on Thursday, February 11, after more than 600,000 players have enjoyed the Steam game and via Xbox Game Pass.
With a pick in your hand and bravery in your heart, control a daredevil peasant determined to dive into a mysterious mine in search of incalculable riches. Fight for life against the dangers that await in the dark depths. Venture down the lower reaches until the commoner finds his destination, then send the next unhappy soul to retrieve his equipment and dive further into the caves.
Use bombs to blow up walls and rocks to dig up secret passages, collect precious gold before the slimy pilfers claim it, and rescue potential allies from deep in the mine. Fight the rogue inhabitants of the dungeons until the end of each level, where bosses who fill the room stand between the fearless miner and his objective.
Be creative with each new race, desperately searching for relics that grant abilities, potions with magical effects, treasures and other items, in the hope that the next race will be smoother than the previous one. Make the difficult choice of accumulating gold for the subsequent descent or spend the hard-earned money on useful items or useful upgrades.
Master the mines and then look for new challenges in the real roguelike Othermine, starting from scratch with no updates, for almost infinite repeatability. After five major content updates during early access, Thorium will continue to expand the mine’s operations with post-launch updates arriving on all platforms in the coming months.
