UNC-Virginia: Roy Williams Postgame

There are many aspects to the game plan for winning Virginia’s disciplined program – sharp and fast ball movement, patient defense, control of the boards, strong finishing on the rim – but above all, it is to make the open kicks won against the stingy Cavs defense . UNC didn’t do that on Saturday night, so UNC lost.

“If you’re not shooting, it’s a long, long night,” lamented Roy Williams after the 60-48 loss at the John Paul Jones Arena.

That was in fact for Tar Heels, who stayed behind at 21-4 and never got closer than seven points the rest of the way. North Carolina threw 35 percent of the field and 13 percent of three. No Tar Heel has scored double digits for the first time since 1966.
