UNC softball sweeps doubleheader against South Carolina and Elon

The UNC softball team won both games on Saturday’s doubleheader as part of the Carolina Classic, defeating South Carolina 3-0 before beating Elon 7-5.

Brittany Pickett drove in a race while also eliminating 12 hitters on the mound in victory over the Gamecocks (11-3). Taylor Greene and Kristina Burkhardt also ran for Tar Heels in the opening, with South Carolina ending the game with just one hit.

In the second game of the afternoon, UNC jumped to a 5-0 lead in two starts before adding two more runs as a guarantee in the fifth frame.

Elon used a grand slam to help propel a seventh inning of five races, before Tar Heels turned to Pickett on the hill once again. The senior star avoided further damage and saved.

UNC improved to 8-5 with wins and advanced to Sunday’s Carolina Classic championship game against South Carolina.
