UMC records for 4,000 vaccinations completed in minutes

UPDATE: All of the University Medical Center’s latest vaccination appointments were booked just minutes after the online registration went live at 6 pm on Tuesday.

There are no more vacancies available until the “super senior” record on Thursday morning. See the original report below for more details.

ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas – The University of El Paso Medical Center said it will keep a record of appointments on Tuesday at 6 pm for 4,000 first doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine that have just been received.

Registration will open at 6 pm at UMCelpaso.org for those in the state vaccination categories 1A and 1B, which includes health professionals, first responders, anyone aged 65 or over, or others with certain underlying health conditions.

A UMC spokesman said it is anticipated, similarly to previous registration events, that all 4,000 vaccination appointments will be completed in minutes.

The UMC website will only accept applications until all open appointments are scheduled. After that point, the site will close access.

In addition, UMC will hold a special appointment registration Thursday at 9 am “super seniors” – those 70 years of age or older.

At that time, “super seniors” can register online at UMCelpaso.org or by calling 915-200-2700. Both the phone number and the website will be closed after the appointments available on Thursday.

There will be 1,000 consultations available online for “super seniors” online and 1,000 available over the phone, officials said.

UMC noted that these two occasions will be some of its last online registration events as they work towards a consolidated registration process with the city of El Paso in the coming weeks.
