UMC records for 4,000 vaccinations completed in 5 minutes

UPDATE: All of the last 4,000 vaccination appointments at the University Medical Center have been scheduled in just over five minutes of online registration, going live at 6pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman said the UMC website had about 33,000 people who tried to log in when the registration was opened.

ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas – The University of El Paso Medical Center said it will keep a record of appointments on Tuesday at 6 pm for 4,000 first doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine that have just been received.

Registration will open at 6 pm at UMCelpaso.org for those in the state vaccination categories 1A, 1B and 1C, which includes school and daycare staff, health professionals, first responders, anyone 50 years of age or older, or others with certain underlying health conditions.

A UMC spokesman said it is anticipated, similarly to previous registration events, that all 4,000 vaccination appointments will be completed in minutes.

The UMC website will only accept applications until all open appointments are scheduled. After that point, the site will close access.

In addition, UMC will hold a special telephone consultation register on Thursday at 9:00 am for seniors without access to the Internet.

At that time, seniors can apply by calling 915-200-2700. The phone number will be closed after available appointments (725 by phone) on Thursday.

These may be the last UMC registration events, as they work towards a consolidated registration process with the city of El Paso, which should be ready soon.
