UMC made vaccine records online without notice, filled 7,000 vacancies in 10 minutes

Coronavirus

EL PASO, Texas – The University Medical Center said on Saturday that it received an additional 7,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine to distribute in its vaccination mega-site at the El Paso County Coliseum.

Registration started at 12:30 pm online at UMCelpaso.org and the 7,000 appointments were scheduled in ten minutes.

Unlike the past two weeks, UMC this time did not give any notice to its followers on social media or the media. The news left the hospital at 12:31 pm, after they had already opened the consultation portal for people in the state vaccination categories 1A and 1B, which includes health professionals, first responders, anyone aged 65 or over, or others with underlying health conditions.

The UMC website only accepted applications until all open appointments were scheduled. After that point, the site closed access.

In the last two times that UMC has received vaccine shipments and registered online, all vaccine appointments have also been completed in minutes. It took just five minutes a week to fill all vacancies and 12 minutes the week before.

In addition to UMC, the city of El Paso is also offering public distribution of vaccines in a mega-site; the city website is close to the airport and pre-registration is available at EPCovidVaccine.com or by calling 21-COVID (212-6843). Unlike UMC, the city’s website maintains a waiting list and contacts those who signed up when it is their turn to be vaccinated.
