In addition, they do not appear to be completely under Wanda’s control, unlike the rest of Westview. While visiting an abandoned Sokovian building, Wanda and Pietro encounter Ultron. As they talk about why Wanda let Tony Stark take Loki’s scepter, the Scarlet Witch reveals that she knew Tony’s fear would be self-destructive. Ultron agrees, noting how, “everyone creates what they fear”. He talks about how those who seek peace create weapons and villains create heroes. Ultron also mentions how children will be the downfall of their parents, claiming, “children [are] designed to supplant them, to help them end. “

This cynical line of thinking seems more exaggerated compared to Ultron’s other conclusions. He’s a robot designed to protect the Earth, so he making the correlation between heroes and villains, as well as peacekeepers and weapon makers, didn’t come out of nowhere. Even Vision sees a correlation between the rise of superheroes and supervillains in Captain America civil war. However, assuming that all children will “supplant” their parents is extreme, but there may be some truth to that in WandaVision.

All over WandaVision, the Westview kids are a mystery, with Billy and Tommy being the first kids in the sitcom town to appear in episode 3, “Now in Color”. Even Vision notes that there are no children in the city other than their children during Episode 5, “In a Very Special Episode …”; however, the city has invested a lot in children.

Episode 1, “Filmed before a live studio audience,” features Ms. Hart questioning Wanda about why she hasn’t had children yet, and Episode 2, “Don’t touch that button,” features a dedicated talent show children, even though there are no children. The emphasis on children without children has left many viewers wondering what is happening to children.

While in Episode 6, “New Halloween Spooktacular!” Pietro proposed that Wanda keep all the children asleep because she would not want to traumatize them too often, she does not confirm or deny this. Wanda can recognize that what she is doing is traumatic, so she is sparing children from what adults are doing; however, she could be doing it out of fear too, either out of fear for her beings or for herself. If Pietro is right, children who are going through the trauma that their parents are going through could be the warning that Wanda needs to stop Hex.

If it is not empathy for these children, then your own children may be your undoing. During episode 5, Wanda tries to put the babies to sleep using her powers, but they are not accommodating. She is able to control the actions of others, so it is surprising that her abilities fail to transform newborns. Billy and Tommy age later, which seems to be out of Wanda’s control as well. Furthermore, despite being born inside the Hex, the twins question what Wanda says, such as what day of the week it is, and they assume that she can “fix the dead”, despite not being alive when her father, Vision, died.

Episode 6 goes even further to show that these children can pose a threat to Wanda, especially Billy. Along with the development of energy-based powers similar to Wanda’s, Billy is clairvoyant, being able to see beyond Hex. He could learn about the truth of his reality thanks to this ability, and with powers like Wanda’s, he could possibly undo the Spell, as well as his control over the residents. Their powers, cognition and free will could put an end to Wanda’s fantasy, and with Billy apparently following his mother in terms of abilities, they could also “supplant” her, proving that Ultron was right.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air on Fridays at Disney +.
