A Ukrainian designed and then reported a fictional murder in the hope that the police would have to plow their snow-covered road to make an arrest. The plan, which otherwise had absolutely no flaws, was thwarted when the police arrived at his home in an SUV.

According The Guardian, the man called the police on Saturday night to say that he had murdered his mother’s partner by stabbing him. On the same call, he said the only way to get to where he was was with a plow.

“But at the same time, he immediately told the police that they should come with a snow plow, because there is no other way to reach him,” said police spokesman Yuliya Kovtun on Monday.

An SUV was used to reach the residence, and it was at this point that the authorities realized that no murders had occurred.

“Immediately after arriving, they found that the relative was at home, but whole and unharmed. Nobody had attacked him, ”added Kovtun.

The man then immediately confessed to having called to accuse the false crime.

Kovtun says the road was plowed earlier in the day, but the man remained dissatisfied “with the quality of the clearing”.

Some parts of Ukraine have received up to 50 centimeters of snow in the past few days.

As for the guy, he faces a fine of up to 119 hryvnias (just over four dollars, not a typo) for making the false claim.
