Ukrainian man invents murder to try to get police to clear snow | Ukraine

A Ukrainian confessed to a fictional murder in the hope that the police would clear his snow-covered road when he came to arrest him, regional officials said.

The man called the police on Saturday night to say he killed his mother’s partner by stabbing him in the chest.

“But at the same time, he immediately told the police that they should come with a snow plow, because there is no other way to get to him,” said police spokesman Yuliya Kovtun on Monday.

She said the police didn’t take snow plows and managed to reach the man’s home in an SUV.

“Immediately after arriving, they found that the relative was at home, but whole and unharmed. No one had attacked him, ”she said, adding that the“ killer ”immediately confessed to making a false call.

Kovtun said that municipal services plowed the road on Saturday, but he “was not satisfied with the quality of the cleanliness”.

The man, from the village of Grybova Rudnya, faces a fine of up to 119 hryvnias (£ 3) for reporting a false complaint.

Ukraine has seen record snowfall in recent days, with about 50 cm (20 inches) covering much of the country.
