UK veterinarian warns of ‘strong suspicion’ of transmission of Covid-19 mutation from humans to pets, creating heart problems – RT UK News

A veterinary center in the UK has strong concerns that the transmission of a coronavirus variant from humans to pets is causing medical problems for animals.

Ralph Veterinary Referral Center cardiologist Luca Ferasin, co-author of a new report on Covid-19 infections in pets, warned this week that they “I have a strong suspicion of human-to-pet transmission, but not vice versa.”

Ferasin said he didn’t “You want to spread panic unnecessarily,” because the suspicions have not yet been confirmed, but added, “Veterinarians should be aware of this so that they can start testing if they suspect a potential case of Covid infection” in pets.

In the report, Ferasin documented “A sudden increase in the number of domestic cats and dogs with myocarditis” at its veterinary center between December 2020 and February 2021, and noted that the increase coincided with the emergence of a Covid-19 variant in the United Kingdom.

“None of these patients with myocarditis had a previous history of heart disease”, revealed Ferasin, however, he asked for further studies to investigate the “Probability of animal-to-pet transmission, as well as animal-to-human transmission from B.1.1.7 [coronavirus] variant.”

In January, at least three gorillas at an American zoo tested positive for Covid-19 in what was suspected to be the first case of human-to-animal transmission, while in February at least one South Korean cat tested positive for the virus – which led Seoul to start testing pets.
