LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – It is a statewide effort to accelerate the distribution of vaccines.
On Thursday, the state announced a partnership with Kroger that will offer drive-thru vaccines for groups 1A, 1B and 1C from the first week of February. This includes essential workers and people at high risk of COVID-19 complications.
The sites will be regional, so that people from all over the state have access. Although the locations have not yet been announced, the Lexington city website says it is prepared to host a website.
The University of Kentucky is also joining efforts with a vaccination clinic in the blue Kroger Field parking lot starting Tuesday. It will be focused on groups 1A and 1B, which is for healthcare professionals and people aged 70 and over. People can order a vaccine online, so the UK HealthCare will prioritize those requests and allow people to schedule appointments.
One of the challenges so far with the vaccine has been low supply. But officials are optimistic that this will change soon.
The UK’s plan is to vaccinate thousands of people every day, six days a week, but they are reminding the community that it will take several months to reach everyone. They are asking people to be patient.
The university developed an application tool to help people apply for the vaccine, which you can visit by clicking here.
