UK fugitive arrested after venturing to buy ‘Call of Duty’

He escaped from prison and was living life on the run – until “Duty” called.

Clint Butler, a 36-year-old Briton, escaped the police for months after escaping from prison in November. But the situation ended after he ventured out of hiding to buy a copy of “Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War”, according to the West Midlands Police.

The fugitive – who served 14 years of 17 for theft and possession of weapons – was arrested on 13 January in Birmingham after police officers observed him and a friend changed directions after seeing the police, according to the press release.

When an officer asked Butler and his companion why they were in town during the pandemic’s confinement, his friend replied, “I came to get the new ‘Call of Duty’ because I can’t just stand there,” officials said.

The fugitive admitted he was carrying marijuana and reportedly gave the police a false name, according to authorities.

When officers said they would be controlling the stupid duo’s information, Butler mistook the violent video game for real life and attacked the officers, kicking and punching, the police said.

He is now back in jail and must serve two more years for escaping from prison and attacking the police.

“It was a great job by our policemen, acting on instinct that something was wrong and then challenging the men,” said West Midlands police superintendent Nick Rowe.

“The situation worsened very quickly, but the two PCs put their training to good effect, restraining Butler, subduing him and handcuffing him safely, while also asking for reinforcements from nearby officers.”
