UK COVID ads encourage people to stay at home

A new coronavirus advertising campaign in the UK is urging Britons to “act like they have” and stay at home, as COVID cases and deaths in the country increase.

A record 68,053 infections and 1,325 deaths were recorded Friday, with the number of daily deaths more than doubling in a week, surpassing the previous high of 1,224 deaths recorded on April 21, according to a report in the newspaper The Sun.

“COVID-19, especially the new variant, is spreading rapidly across the country,” said the country’s medical director, Chris Whitty, in the TV commercial. “Once again, we should all stay home.”

The dire warnings come when a new highly contagious variant of the coronavirus was discovered in the country last month.

Posters in the government’s gloomy campaign to curb infection rates show a nurse treating a patient with coronavirus along with the warning: “act like you have it.”
