UK coronavirus variant kills Alabama father, 35, wife claims

A father of two 35-year-olds in Alabama succumbed to a coronavirus variant that was first identified in the UK, his wife said.

Alfonzia Jackson Jr. died on February 2, less than a month after being taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, after showing symptoms of COVID-19, ie shortness of breath and fever, according to a GoFundMe post in your name.

After he was admitted to the hospital, the 35-year-old’s heart began to fail, leading him to need emergency surgery, wrote his wife, Ashley Jackson. Subsequently, he required oxygenation by an extracorporeal membrane, also known as extracorporeal life support, in addition to a ventilator. His condition did not improve and Jackson lost the battle against the virus on Tuesday.

Jackson’s wife says she was contacted by the Jefferson County Department of Health that her husband had tested positive for variant B.1.1.7, which was first identified in the UK last year. She told the local WBRC news station that she is not sure how her husband contracted the variant.
