COLOMBIA, SC (AP) – The first known case of the UK-based coronavirus variant was discovered in South Carolina, state health officials said on Saturday.
According to the Department of Health and Environmental Control, the agency was notified on Friday that a sample of a Lowcountry adult “with a history of international travel” was positive for the variant, which has been identified in many countries.
A total of 434 cases of the variant were reported in the U.S. as of Friday night, officials said.
