COLOMBIA, SC – Georgia quarterback D’Wan Mathis is not with the team Saturday night in South Carolina.

The redshirt freshman must enter the transfer portal, according to Dawgs247.

Indications from people close to the program are that their time in Georgia really seems to be ending.

A Georgia spokesman had no information about Mathis’s situation on the team.

Mathis started the season opener against Arkansas and was replaced by Stetson Bennett, who led the team to victory. He was ineffective in Bennett’s relief against Florida in Jacksonville and fell behind the real freshman Carson Beck on the depth chart after JT Daniels started last week against the state of Mississippi.

Mathis resigned last season after undergoing surgery for a brain cyst in May 2019.

The Michigan native has 12 of 30 to 89 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions this season.

He also ran 18 times for 17 yards.

Georgia currently has three scholarship quarterbacks – Daniels, Bennett and Beck – with five-star freshman Brock Vandagriff from Prince Avenue Christian arriving in January.

Quarterback Jamie Newman, the transfer from Wake Forest, dropped out of the preseason before playing a game for the Bulldogs.
