UFC pre-facts at ABC 1: Max Holloway’s legendary chin

The UFC starts its 2021 campaign on Saturday with UFC on ABC 1, which marks the return of the promotion to television networks.

The card’s main attraction at ABC, which follows the preliminaries on ESPN +, is a high-risk confrontation between former champion Max Holloway (21-6 MMA, 17-6 UFC), who seems to break a lost skid from two fights , and the warm Calvin Kattar (22-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC).

Holloway’s ten wins from stoppages in UFC featherweight competitions are the biggest in the division’s history.

Holloway’s six wins in the third round of the UFC competition are tied with Randy Couture and Yoel Romero for most of the company’s history.

Carlos Condit (30-13 MMA, 7-9 UFC) has 3-8 in his last 11 UFC appearances since November 2012.

Condit was defeated at least once in 18 of his 22 UFC / WEC appearances. He gave up a total of 65 falls on that stretch.

The bonus of seven fight nights for the UFC welterweight fights is tied for second place in the division’s history, behind Lytle (10).

Matt Brown

Matt Brown (22-17 MMA, 15-11 UFC) competes in his 27th UFC middleweight fight, the highest number of appearances in the division’s history.

Brown’s 15 wins in the UFC welterweight competition are tied for fourth place in the division’s history, behind Georges St-Pierre (19), Neil Magny (17) and Matt Hughes (16).

Brown’s 13 wins in the UFC welterweight competition are the biggest in the division’s history.

Brown’s 11 knockout victories in the UFC competition are tied for second place in the company’s history, behind Vitor Belfort (12).

Brown’s 11 wins by knockout in the welterweight competition are the biggest in the division’s history.

Brown’s 24 attempts at submission in the UFC welterweight competition are the second most in the division’s history, behind Lytle (31).

Brown’s eight losses in the UFC competition are tied for second place in the company’s history, behind Tim Boetsch (nine).

Santiago Ponzinibbio vs Li Jingliang

Santiago Ponzinibbio (27-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) returns to the competition for the first time since November 17, 2018. The 791-day layoff is the longest of his almost 13-year career.

Ponzinibbio’s seven-game streak in the UFC at middleweight is the third longest active streak in the division, behind Kamaru Usman (12) and Leon Edwards (eight).

Ponzinibbio scored 21 of his 27 career stoppage victories. He finished 16 of them in the first round.

Ponzinibbio’s four wins in the first round by knockout in the UFC welterweight competition are tied for third place in the division’s history, behind Anthony Johnson (five) and Vicente Luque (five).

Joaquin Buckley vs. Alessio Di Chirico

Joaquin Buckley (12-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) won all nine career wins by knockout.

Buckley is one of four fighters in UFC history to win a knockout from a spinning kick to the head, which he did in the UFC on ESPN + 37 Renan Barao, Uriah Hall and Magomed Mustafaev also accomplished the feat.

Alessio Di Chirico’s three-fight skid (12-5 MMA, 3-5 UFC) is the longest of his career. He hasn’t won a victory since July 2018.

Phil Hawes vs Nassourdine Imavov

Phil Hawes (9-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) won all nine career strikes by stoppage.

Hawes’ 18-second knockout at UFC 254 marked the second fastest debut for a middleweight in UFC history, behind Mark Weir’s 10-second victory at UFC 38.

Omari Akhmedov vs Tom Breese

Omari Akhmedov (20-5-1 MMA, 8-4-1 UFC) is 3-1-1 since returning to the UFC middleweight division in December 2017. He is 4-1-1 in the overall weight category under the UFC flag.

Tom Breese (12-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) is 2-1 since moving to the UFC middleweight division in May 2018.

Breese obtained 11 of his 12 career stoppage victories. All four submissions in the UFC were by knockout.

Sarah Moras x Vanessa Melo

Vanessa Melo’s three-fight skid (10-8 MMA, 0-3 UFC) is the longest of her career. She hasn’t won a victory since January 2019.

Melo suffered seven of his eight career losses by decision. That includes all three defeats in the UFC.
