UFC fighter arrested on charges of premeditated first-degree murder of his sisters

UFC fighter Irwin Rivera is in trouble.

Rivera was arrested on Thursday on two counts of premeditated first-degree murder. MMA reporter Eric Kowal first reported on Rivera’s arrest. He also reported that Rivera was arrested because he stabbed his sisters.

Rivera was charged in custody at 12:08 am on Thursday at the Main Detention Center in West Palm Beach, according to online arrest records from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (Florida).

No link has been established for Rivera yet. In Florida, charges of premeditated first-degree murder carry a potential death sentence or life sentence.

MMAFighting.com says they sent several requests for comment to the office’s public information officer, but were not responded to, and a dispatch official said he could not provide any information about the case. In addition, Rivera’s manager Ali Abdelaziz did not respond to a request for comment, according to the website.

The UFC released a statement about Rivera’s situation. A UFC official said Rivera’s career will be on hold pending an investigation.

“The UFC is aware of the recent incident involving Irwin Rivera and has subsequently received information from his management that he has behaved consistently with mental health issues,” the UFC said in a statement. “The allegations are extremely worrying and the organization is currently gathering additional information. The investigation is ongoing and any possible next steps, including disciplinary action or medical care, will be determined upon completion.
