UFC 260 Results: Vicente Luque leaves aggressive Tyron Woodley

It was not the main pay-per-view (PPV) co-event that most fighting fans expected after featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski was scratched because of COVID-19, but the former perch ruler of 170 pounds Tyron Woodley is no stranger to the main attraction of major events. In fact, “The Chosen One” was back in action tonight (Saturday, March 27, 2021) at UFC 260, which took place inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, against bonus winner Vicente Luque.

Woodley has been shy since leaving the belt for Kamaru Usman, having lost two consecutive fights since then. If anyone was able to get some violence out of Woodley, it was the aggressive Luque, winner of two consecutive submissions.

And he did just that, wading in dangerous waters, swallowing Woodley’s powerful shots and then knocking him over and stopping him in the first round.

Woodley actually came out throwing a huge hay, which he missed, but he used it to press Luque against the cage. Luque was able to quickly reverse along the fence while Woodley hooked his arms. The pair finally broke up and returned to the center of the octagon, where Woodley started to release his heavy hands. Luque closed the distance and enveloped him, hitting a few short shots in the middle of Woodley against the cage. Woodley pushed him away and then started swinging the big shots again. Woodley was landing, but Luque was in the game – returning the fire in kind. He landed an important shot and Woodley staggered. He almost fell when Luque continued to bombard him with heavy shots. He was essentially on his feet when Luque threw him through the cage. Woodley clung to the fence for support and the referee looked like he wanted to stop him, but the two continued to exchange shots. Woodley was injured – and probably still standing – but he was playing hot in despair. His momentum made him fall to the ground, where Luque carefully angled for a tree choke, without Woodley really knowing what was going on. Eventually, he found out what was going on, but this time, it was over. Luque locked it, squeezed it, and Woodley had no choice but to hit instead of taking a nap.

Support for Woodley for doing this – he made Luque stagger. But Luque was awesome in the end. Fun fight!
