There is no perfect statistic. But there are ways to adjust the statistics to better understand their meaning or to set parameters that help you understand a team’s strengths and weaknesses.
Since the season’s cumulative statistics often don’t tell us what we need to know about how teams do against the best of the best, it’s helpful to narrow the focus, especially as we get closer to the time of the season when each opponent’s opponent team will be better than the previous one.
With the conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament approaching, we shared the statistics for our top 10 women’s teams to count only their best opponents this season. The goal is to give our readers a better idea of what to expect when these teams step into the postseason.
