UConn Health cancels first dose of COVID-19 vaccinations scheduled for next week due to scarcity – NBC Connecticut

UConn Health canceled all appointments for the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine that were scheduled for this next week due to a lack of vaccines.

Officials said there was a shortage of the vaccine at the federal and state levels and that the weekly distribution of vaccines is being reduced.

All first dose appointments that were scheduled at UConn Health for Monday, February 1st through Monday, February 8th, have been canceled.

The coronavirus vaccine has been shown to be safe, but some of the temporary side effects can seem quite serious – especially when you receive your second dose. Iahn Gonsenhauser, director of patient safety at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, described his own experience with “extreme” fever and chills after his second injection, so you know what to expect.

According to UConn Health, decisions will be made next week on whether additional consultations after February 8 will need to be canceled.

UConn Health will not accept new first dose appointments over the phone or online.

Officials said that anyone with a second scheduled dose during that period should proceed as scheduled, unless they are contacted by the COVID-19 Vaccine Program staff.

Those who are currently eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine include:

  • Phase 1a: Individuals attending health facilities that are at risk of direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials.
  • Phase 1b: Individuals aged 75 and over.
