SAN DIEGO (CBSLA) – Several vending machines with COVID-19 tests have been installed at UC San Diego, where students and staff are required to take regular tests if they come to study, live or work on campus.
Vending machines, which do not require self-test kits, were placed just before the start of the UC San Diego winter quarter. The machines are also accompanied by a nearby dump, where people can place their samples.
The machines are in the following campus locations:
- Muir College | Roots Restaurant
- Seventh College | Next to the Parcel Center
- Nuevo East (Porton) | Outdoor fitness area
- Price center | First floor in front of Burger King
- Thurgood Marshall College (Lower) | TMC Residence Life Lobby
- Warren College | In front of the Residence Life Office
- Eleanor Roosevelt College | Next to the laundry
- Village in Pepper Canyon | To present
- South Mesa | 9126 Laundry
- One Miramar | Next to the Parcel Center
- Central Table | Next to the laundry – arriving in the winter of 2021
Students who live on the UC property, are coming to campus or any other campus property on a regular basis must undergo a daily self-diagnosis and undergo a free asymptomatic test twice a month. Employees reporting on campus work are also required to self-assess daily and take the test weekly. . Off-campus students and remote workers are not required to take the test regularly, but they are recommended to take the test as well.
The university has been aggressive in limiting the spread of COVID-19 with its testing regime and a wastewater sensor system that can detect the virus faster than normal tests.
