U.S. stock futures soar after strong jobs report

US stock futures soared on Sunday night, rising after Friday’s encouraging jobs report.

rose more than 200 points on Sunday night, or 0.6%, while S&P 500 ES00 futures,
+ 0.40%
and future Nasdaq-100 NQ00,
+ 0.10%
also showed solid gains.

The markets were closed on Friday for the Good Friday holiday. The main benchmarks ended the shortened holiday week with gains, with the S&P 500 SPX,

ending up above the 4,000 mark for the first time. S&P rose 1.2% on the week, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,
+ 0.52%
gained 0.2% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP,
+ 1.76%
advanced 2.6%.

On Friday, the federal employment report broke expectations, with the US adding 916,000 in March, while the unemployment rate fell from 6.2% to 6%. Employment growth was widespread in March, led by gains in leisure and hospitality, public and private education and construction, the Department of Labor report showed.
