U.S. Apple Stores start shopping in stores again, reopening more locations

Apple is reintroducing in-store purchase commitments at many Apple stores in the United States that have operated as Express stores. Other temporarily closed locations are reopening for online order pickup.

After months of reduced service and prioritizing pickups during a busy holiday season, your local Apple Store may seem a little closer to normal the next time you visit. Express displays – the armored kiosks introduced prior to the iPhone 12 launch and deployed in nearly a dozen stores across the United States – are disappearing almost as fast as they emerged. This means that you will soon be able to log in and have more time using the products.

Since February 8, Apple Stores in Alaska, Oregon, Wisconsin, Colorado, Michigan, Delaware, Maryland and the Washington, DC metropolitan area reintroduced shopping sessions. Manhattan, Hawaii and Maine locations continued to offer in-store services during the winter.

In total, 39 stores in the United States offer shipping on February 12, and more can be expected to make the change, assuming local health conditions remain stable. Stores that abandon their Express storefronts are generally located in regions with a decreasing number of new COVID-19 infections. Buying online is still the safest option.

Apple is also reopening a handful of stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas for the first time since mid-January. Most locations will initially offer online order collection only, as all regions are still suffering from increased COVID-19 activity. Remember that Apple regularly evaluates health and safety conditions and store services can change at any time. Just over 200 of Apple’s 270 US stores have reopened, including locations in the San Francisco Bay area.
