In a caption for a photo showing Gibson kissing his wife on the cheek, he wrote that the couple had “decided to make a statement about a painful and significant development in our lives”.
“After a lot of reflection, consideration and prayer, unfortunately we made the difficult decision to officially separate and divorce,” read the caption. “Our intention is to remain the best friends and strong co-parents.”
The couple, who married in 2017, are the father of a 2-year-old daughter named Soraya.
They feel “blessed” and “deeply grateful” for their relationship and Gibson noted “Our journey together has been a journey of ups and downs, but it is a journey that none of us would have chosen to do with someone else.”
“We really have a lot of love and respect for each other,” he wrote. “We both grew tremendously within that relationship; we shared so many memories and beautiful moments, and we also look forward to seeing the incredible future ahead of us individually.”
He said they wanted to keep the division’s “energy” in 2020 and not take it into the new year.
