Type Lumina will arrive on PS4, Xbox One and Switch in 2021

No band-aids are needed

In wonderful news for 2D fighting fans, developer French-Bread has officially announced a new entry in their cult anime fighting game series Blood melty. Released in late 2021 for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, Molten Blood: Lumina Type you’ll see new and old characters getting ready for magical hand-to-hand combat action.

The new sequel, the first major release since 2011 Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, will retain the typical one-on-one 2D fighting action that is the hallmark of the series, but will be built on an entirely new engine for the franchise’s HD visual debut. Players will be able to choose one of the initial 10 characters – including new fighters drawn from the visual romance to come Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, which will be released in August. The smaller overall list reflects the distinctively adaptive nature of the new game, focusing purely on the upcoming VN narrative and cast.

Confirmed modes for Molten Blood: Lumina Type include vs. typical Time Attack and Survival, as well as a full Story mode. Details on the fighter’s engine and mechanics are scarce, but French-Bread assures the player that the Lumina Type will retain the distinctive Blood melty style by adding – or replacing – certain battle mechanics in the game. A new system is the “Rapid Beat”, which will cause players to repeatedly press specific buttons for extended attacks – which looks suspicious as an Auto-Combo. The netcode rollback has also been confirmed for the new title.

No trailer has been released, but the promotional images can be viewed on the official website.

While Blood melty is probably destined to remain on the cult / niche side of the fighting game community, he has always had his dedicated army of followers. As such, the news of a new entry will come as a surprise and a delight, and it looks like it won’t be long before fans return to the ring again.
