Tyler Perry gets coronavirus vaccine, asks for education and research to end skepticism

Tyler Perry received both doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine and hopes to help reluctant skeptics to form their own views on vaccination.

The multi-hyphenate spoke to CBS This Morning on Tuesday and shared the details of his next BET special, Vacid-19 Vaccine and the Black Community A Tyler Perry Special, set to debut on Thursday. The BET special event will see the tycoon discuss the virus and vaccine with experts, hoping to educate viewers about the doses.

“I’m not getting this vaccine because I want you to get it, I want to give you the information so that you can make your own choices,” he told Gayle King of CBS. “I think that’s what education and information is all about.”

During Tuesday’s interview, Perry said he understands where mistrust and skepticism about the vaccine comes from, especially for the black community. He mentioned the Tuskegee and Henrietta Lacks experiment, adding that the story of such experiments “raises flags for us as African Americans”.

He also revealed that he initially did not trust the vaccine, also given the previous administration, but decided to take the vaccines as soon as the experts answered his questions. While not everyone can access responses to the Covid-19 vaccine as easily as Perry, the Made one actor-director said that the doubt is not worth skipping the vaccine.

“I think it is very important for people to know that if you take a chance with Covid, you will never know how it will affect you and how it can affect your health in the long run,” he said.

Your special will air on BET Thursday, January 28 at 9pm PT / ET. See the complete CBS This Morning interview above.
