Two women and three girls were found dead in a home in northwest Arkansas on a suspected homicide.
MPs answered a call at about 5 pm on Friday and found five people killed in a house in Atkins, about 65 miles northwest of Little Rock, Sheriff Shane Jones of Pope County said in a statement . The dead were between 8 and 50 years old and are believed to have been related, he said.
Jones said during a short press conference on Saturday that the authorities did not immediately have a suspect and that at least some of the people were shot dead. He did not provide further details.
“At the moment, we believe this to be an isolated incident and we do not feel that there is any continuing danger to the local public,” he said. “We believe it is something domestic, possibly.”
MPs are investigating the deaths with the help of the Arkansas state police. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office did not immediately answer questions.
