Two tourists tried to bribe the tracker at Hawaii airport to avoid Covid’s rules, officials said

Two people who flew from Louisiana to Hawaii were arrested last week after allegedly trying to bribe them to escape the state’s Covid-19 precautions.

One of the employees who screen travelers arriving at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, alerted authorities after Friday’s incident, according to the Hawaii Department of Public Security and the attorney general’s office. of State.

Johntrell White, 29, allegedly told the tracker that he would offer her $ 2,000 if she let him through without the mandatory quarantine. Then Nadia Bailey, 28, reportedly added that she would add $ 1,000 if the tracker allowed both to pass through without quarantine.

None of the travelers had a valid pre-test or Covid-19 exemption, officials said.

White and Bailey were arrested for bribery and sent home, according to a statement from the Hawaii governor’s office, David Ige. Court records were not available to White or Bailey in the Hawaii State Judiciary’s records search.

White’s public records do not include a phone number and it is not clear whether he hired a lawyer. Bailey did not immediately return a call from NBC News on Thursday.

Travelers arriving in Hawaii are required to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test done within 72 hours of their arrival to avoid the mandatory 10-day quarantine, according to the state’s Safe Travels Hawai’i program. They are also subject to a temperature check on arrival.
